…but I’m going for paid subscriptions.
With free material still available for unpaid subscribers, of course.
I’ve been doing Substack stuff for two years now and I feel the time has come - and I do hate this term - to monetize this sucker. If you like my stuff and find it informative and entertaining, please consider a paid subscription. Somehow I’m off the local and legacy media speed dial, and this is one of the few ways to make a dime from what I do.
What’s actually changing?
It’s going to be the same kind of content as far as art and writing and topics go, but with some new formats thrown in. I’ll be doing the occasional video and podcast.
I’ll also be putting more focus on doing written pieces, both satirical and serious. There will be cartoons and ridiculous memes. of course. I intend for those to remain freely viewable.
What do you get if you pay or don’t pay?
If you pay you get access to all material, including the new stuff. If you don’t pay you’ll still get access to a large portion of it. Occasionally you’ll see an ‘upgrade to paid’ button to access a complete article.
Okay Olson, let’s talk turkey. How much?
I’m going with 7 dollars Canadian a month, or $70 a year, as I think that’s a reasonable ask. If you’re feeling generous, there are higher options.
Why should someone go for a paid subscription?
It’s a way to get more of the stuff you like and to support me as an independent writer and artist…one who doesn’t hold back in his screeds and scribbles. Paid subscribers also get to post comments.
Why should you go for a paid subscription right now?
To ensure you get the complete Geoff Olson 2.0 experience unhindered, from this moment on!
How do you subscribe?
Click on the ‘upgrade to paid’ button below for payment options. Or continue freely! In future posts that damnable button will pop up again and again to haunt your guilty conscience.
How does the payment work?
You plunk in your credit card info and Substack handles the rest for billing.
Some past reader testimonials…(more in the ‘about’ section).
“I just wanted to say 'kudos" for your recent brilliant essay in the Common Ground (Issue 337 - Sept 2019) - one of my favourite rags in Vancouver - mostly because of your intelligent and witty and brilliantly funny work.” - Cathy Williams
“I find your expressions and thoughts in cartoons, articles and essays very helpful in giving order and some clarity to feelings that I can not always share with friends - a solace.” - Robert Young
“...I thought I'd take the time to let you know you have people out there enjoying your reflective writing (your political cartoons are unerringly accurate, as well). So keep up the insights and clarity!” - Susan DeClerck
“So, thanks again for being the exemption from the mainstream press writing - which makes me simply not want to read newspapers anymore at all.” - Verena Boersch (Germany)
"I appreciate your biting humour and fine drawings that I have read in different venues over the years. You are not totally howling into the wind." - Alan Sirulnikoff
Love the Yoga Poses!
You keep me smiling in my dotage, so I will pay, darn it...
Well...if you would 'do right' and refrain from the denigration of a beautiful species by presenting Covid Kittys wearing suffocating masks, I just might consider "monetization." 💔
