I just love getting into discusssions about music and bands, your article really giving me a lot of great new musical ideas to think about. My musical horizons are perpetually expanding but I remember how this trend started for me whilst staying with some friends in a small picturesque market town in the South of England in the late 1980's. Two albums they played on their turntable for me really blew the top of my head off; Saint Julian by Julian Cope and Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother. And expansive dimension hopping vibes have been a joy for me ever since.

Ha, "...like prehistoric insects in amber." You make me laugh.

Couldn't help but notice...no Leonard Cohen, eh!?

Thanks for the music stuff. Most of your stuff is not my stuff, buy I'm listening through because that's one of the ways I can keep my mind from atrophy, and I almost always find something I enjoy, certainly something over which to mull. I'm 72 and my whole life has been drenched with music and it pisses some people off when I quote random lyrics or song titles that are, as you say, situational. I learned long ago that my brain functions on associations, stuff from books, visual media, but mostly from music, lyrics, mood and melodies. I've read Counterpunch for years, and I used to like it when Cockburn (I think it was mostly Alexander) would stray off into musical ramblings. Good to see you carrying on the tradition.

Good to get some insight into what you like to listen to...some, if not most, of your faves are identical with mine...though I listen to tons of classic and flamenco as well. Actually, I listen to all kinds of music except country...but anyway, without music, the world is dreary...
